60% of French maritime research takes place in Brest. On the European scale, this amounts to the highest concentration of research and development in this arena. The economic development favored by the Brest maritime cluster focuses on the following major national, European and world issues: maritime safety and security, energy, mineral resources and sustainable development of coastal zones.

45% of French ICT research is based in Brittany (Brest, Lannion and Rennes). The four following themes are explored in Brest:

Building on its experience in the food industry and expertise in the field of health and marine science, the Brest natural science cluster will be developed around the following themes:
