Qu’est-ce que le Concours Copernicus Masters ?
C’est un concours organisé par l’ESA (European Space Agency) dont l’objectif est de promouvoir l’utilisation de données OT (observation de la terre) du programme européen Copernicus¹.
Les contributeurs soumettront leur application ou service OT innovant à l’un des 9 challenges proposés par les partenaires internationaux du concours. Les challenges proposent de relever d’importants défis environnementaux et sociétaux (changement climatique, sécurité alimentaire, approvisionnement en eau, …).

Depuis 2011, 4000 participants de 50 pays ont participé au concours. Il a mobilisé 200 experts et 60 partenaires.

A qui est-il ouvert ?
Aux PME, startups, universités et aux particuliers.

Ce qu’il y a gagné ?
Les gagnants du concours auront des prix en espèces, accès à un écosystème international d’organisations d’observation de la terre, à d’importants volumes de données satellitaires, ainsi qu’à une aide individuelle au développement commercial. Le grand gagnant recevra un prix supplémentaire en espèces d’une valeur de 10 000 euros.

Le calendrier du concours
1.    30 juin : clôture du concours.
2.    Octobre – novembre : annonce des finalistes
3.    Décembre : cérémonie de remise des prix.

Les 9 challenges

1.    ESA Digital Twin Earth (DTE) Challenge
ESA seeks to stimulate applications which combine AI and Big Data from Copernicus Sentinels and EO data to provide forecasting on the impact of climate change and responding to societal challenges.

2.    DLR Environment, Energy & Health Challenge
DLR is looking for innovative solutions that use Earth observation (EO) data to support sustainable management of our limited natural resources and foster human well-being.

3.    Copernicus Masters Planet Challenge 2020. Planet "See Change, Change the World" Challenge
Planet is looking for new ways to help solve climate and environmental challenges through the use of daily satellite imagery, tools and analytics.

4.    BayWa Smart Farming Challenge
BayWa is looking for innovative solutions that use new technologies, ideas and products to support sustainable agriculture and horticulture.

5.     Airbus sobloo Multi-Data Challenge
Airbus Defence and Space together with sobloo are looking for solutions that use both Copernicus and Airbus EO data to deliver new services and/or applications that provide insight and have impact on areas like Natural Resources Consumption, Agriculture, Forestry, Maritime, Defence & Security and Smart Cities.

6.    German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. BMVI Digital Transport Challenge
BMVI is looking for solutions that use Copernicus data to solve major challenges faced by transport systems today.

7.    EU Space data for new Business Applications
The EU Space data for new Business Applications is looking for solutions that have the potential to stimulate new commercial incentives in “established” markets and open up business opportunities to startups.

8.    EU Space data for „Blue Economy“
The EU Space data for “Blue Economy” Challenge is looking for solutions that have the potential to stimulate new markets and to contribute to environmental protection related to the so-called “Blue Economy”.

9.    University Challenge
The University Challenge is looking for students and research associates to compete for the chance to transform their bright ideas into successful commercial ventures.
